Kyrgyz Opposition Creates 'Emergency Reaction Center'


BISHKEK -- A Kyrgyz opposition bloc has announced they have created an "emergency reaction center."

The United People's Movement, an umbrella group of opposition groups, decided to establish the body to deal with situations similar to that faced by the Ata-Meken (Fatherland) Socialist Party on January 17, when party leaders were detained and charged with organizing unauthorized rallies and gun violations while meeting with locals.

The head of the new center, Azimbek Beknazarov, told RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service that the center will react to every actions by the government that is related to the opposition groups' activities.
