Legendary Bosnian Journalist Dies

Bosnian journalist, Hamza Baksic, has died in Sarajevo at the age of 69. He was a manger of Sarajevo Television from 1977 to 1981, editor in chief of two weeklies, producer of award-winning documentaries, author of several books, and the Sarajevo bureau chief of RFE/RL between 1999 and 2001.

In the final years of his career, Baksic was a columnist for the Sarajevan daily "Oslobodjenje" where he devoted much of his time to the younger generation of journalists.

His book, " Me, journalist!" serves as an unofficial guide book for many Bosnian journalists. His war-time "Diaries (1992-1995)" became a bible for war reporters. He will be very much missed by his friends and colleges. Our story on Hamza on one of our Balkan websites is currently our most popular.

About This Blog

Written by RFE/RL editors and correspondents, Transmission serves up news, comment, and the odd silly dictator story. While our primary concern is with foreign policy, Transmission is also a place for the ideas -- some serious, some irreverent -- that bubble up from our bureaus. The name recognizes RFE/RL's role as a surrogate broadcaster to places without free media. You can write us at transmission+rferl.org
