NAZRAN, Russia -- A suspected Islamic insurgent leader has reportedly been killed in Russia's volatile republic of Ingushetia, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Police say Magomed Gardanov was surrounded by security forces in a mosque in Ingushetia's largest city of Nazran and killed in an ensuing shoot-out.
