Ukrainian Police Detain Alleged Terrorist From Turkey


KYIV -- A Turkish citizen has been detained by Ukrainian police and security service officers in Kyiv for his alleged involvement in terrorist operations, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

The identity of the man was not revealed.

Kyiv city police told journalists that the individual, apprehended on December 1, is wanted by Turkish officials for his alleged participation in various terrorist activities of the banned Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) since 1988.

Turkish officials said he was involved in an explosion that killed a person in Turkey and attacked police with arms, killing five Turkish security officers.

Ukrainian officials are working on extraditing the suspect to Turkey.
