Representatives of more than 30 nations and 40 international organizations have gathered in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, to discuss the country's future.

Opening the sixth Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) on September 3, Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai said the two-day meeting would examine the challenges of rebuilding Afghanistan after nearly 40 years of conflict.

President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah are also attending the event, which is being held amid tight security.

The foreign delegates include Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and Pakistan National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz.

The participants are to debate a range of economic issues, including interregional trade and harmonization of customs and border routines.

The five previous RECCA conferences have been held in Kabul, New Delhi, Islamabad, Istanbul, and Dushanbe.
