WATCH: Rare Protest In Ashgabat

Dozens of residents of Turkmenistan's capital, Ashgabat, took part in a rare street protest on November 29 -- blocking construction cranes from removing air conditioners from the windows of their apartments.

It was the second time since August that residents of Ashgabat's Parahat-7 neighborhood defied a municipal order for the removal of the air conditioners from windows of their apartments in buildings overlooking Baba Annanov Street in the city center.

City officials have not provided a reason to justify the removal order.

On August 23, residents also had blocked cranes to prevent them from removing their air conditioners.

After that demonstration, municipal authorities told residents that the order had been cancelled.

Residents in the neighborhood say they will continue to defy attempts by authorities to remove their air conditioners.

Summer temperatures in Ashgabat can reach 50 degrees Celsius.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
