MONDAY, May 9:

Afghanistan: Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rasul pays an official visit to China (to May 12).

Armenia: OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Petros Efthymiou visits Yerevan (May 11).

Balkans: The Wilson Center hosts a discussion titled "Lessons From Bosnia And The Balkans" in Washington.

EU: Europe Day.

Pakistan: Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to address parliament in Islamabad.

Russia: Moscow's Red Square hosts the annual Victory Day parade.

Ukraine: The Washington-based Brookings Institution hosts a discussion on the process by which Ukraine surrendered its nuclear weapons in the 1990s.

UN: UN Security Council holds briefings on the situation in Libya and a discussion of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

UN: Fourth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries opens in Istanbul, Turkey (to May 13).


TUESDAY, May 10:

Afghanistan: U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee holds a hearing titled "Outlook For Transition In Afghanistan."

Bosnia-Herzegovina: The Washington-based U.S. Institute of Peace holds a discussion titled "Deep Political Crisis In Bosnia-Herzegovina."

U.S.: The Washington-based Cato Institute holds a forum titled "America's Allies And War: Kosovo, Afghanistan, And Iraq."

World: Istanbul hosts a meeting of the Council of Europe ministers (to May 11).

World: Oslo Freedom Forum opens in Norway to highlight global humanitarian issues (to May 11).


WEDNESDAY, May 11:

Belarus: The trials of former presidential candidates Mikalay Statkevich and Dzmitry Vus to take place in Minsk.

Iran: Iran resumes trial in Tehran of three U.S. hikers arrested and accused of espionage in 2009. (NOTE: The trial has reportedly been postponed).

Pakistan/Russia: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg (to May 14).

Russia: Diego Maradona, Luis Figo, and other world soccer stars visit Chechnya to play soccer in a new stadium in Grozny.

Kazakhstan: Almaty hosts regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (to May 14).

World: Amnesty International launches its 2011 report, "The State Of The World’s Human Rights."


SATURDAY, May 14:

Georgia: OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Petros Efthymiou visits Tbilisi.

Iran/Iraq: Tehran hosts an international antiterrorism conference. Iraqi President Jalal Talabani is expected to attend.

World: Germany's Dusseldorf hosts the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 final.
