MONDAY, January 16:

Armenia: PACE Co-rapporteurs on Armenia John Prescott and Axel Fischer make a fact-finding visit to Yerevan (to January 17).

Belarus/Turkmenistan: Belarus Premier Mikhail Myasnikovich pays a working visit to Turkmenistan (to January 17).

Georgia: The head of the European office of the UN High Commission for Refugees, Daniel Endres, visits Georgia (to January 20).

India/Iran: Indian delegation is expected to visit Iran for talks over oil purchase in light of U.S. sanctions (to January 21).

Kazakhstan: International election observers in Kazakhstan to present their preliminary postelection statement at a news conference in Astana.

Pakistan: Pakistani lawmakers are expected to vote on a resolution supporting the country's democratic system.

U.S.: U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Marc Grossman is scheduled to travel to Ankara, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Kabul, and Doha (to January 27).

World: Abu Dhabi hosts World Future Energy Summit (to January 19).


TUESDAY, January 17:

Azerbaijan: A meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Iran to be held in Nakhchivan.

Moldova/Azerbaijan: Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat to visit Baku (to January 18).

Russia/Ukraine: Gas talks between Russia and Ukraine due to begin in Moscow.

Russia/Finland: Finnish President Tarja Halonen to visit Moscow.

Ukraine: Kyiv Pecherskyi District Court to consider the criminal case against RosUkrEnergo gas company.


WEDNESDAY,January 18:

Azerbaijan/U.S.: U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin to visit Azerbaijan.

Georgia: Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze pays an official visit to Turkmenistan (to January 19).

Iran/Turkey: Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi is scheduled to visit Ankara (to January 19).

Moldova/Ukraine: Parliamentary Speaker and acting President of Moldova Marian Lupu visits Kyiv, meets with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

Russia: Deadline for presidential candidates to register.

Russia: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gives the traditional annual press conference on the activity of Russian diplomacy in 2011.

Serbia: Bjorn von Sydow, rapporteur on the situation in Kosovo, pays a fact-finding visit to Belgrade (to January 20).

Ukraine: French Ambassador for Human Rights Francois Zimeray is expected to meet with former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is being held in the Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv.


THURSDAY, January 19:

Pakistan: Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is expected to appear before the Supreme Court to explain why he has not complied with an earlier order to appear.

Russia: President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmud Abbas makes a working visit to Russia (to January 24).

World: Freedom in the World 2012 report to be released by Freedom House.


FRIDAY, January 20:

Russia: A meeting between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas is scheduled.

Russia/PACE: The delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to visit Russia (to January 21).


SUNDAY, January 22:

Croatia: Referendum on EU membership to be held in Croatia.

Ukraine: Unity Day. Ukraine Opposition is expected to hold a rally.
