Drone Strike Reportedly Kills Afghan Militant Commander

Afghan officials say a drone strike has killed up to six people, including a militant commander suspected of having defected recently from the Taliban to join to the Islamic State militant group.

The police chief and the deputy governor in the southern province of Helmand both told Reuters news agency that Mullah Abdul Rauf was killed by a drone attack that targeted his vehicle on February 9.

Police chief Nabi Jan Mullahkhel said the five others killed by the attack included Rauf's brother-in-law.

It was reported earlier that Rauf, a former Afghan Taliban leader, was recruiting in Helmand Province for the Islamic State militants.
