Grenade Explodes At Kyrgyz Politician's House

BISHKEK -- The Kyrgyz authorities are investigating an explosion near the house of Kyrgyz parliament deputy Marat Sultanov, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

A preliminary report of the incident late on April 27 shows that some assailants threw a grenade at Sultanov's house. No one was injured.

Kyrgyz media outlets report that Sultanov, a member of the Ata-Jurt (Fatherland) party, is preparing to be a candidate for the presidential election this fall.

Sultanov told RFE/RL today that the grenade attack on his home may have been politically motivated.

Kyrgyz parliament deputy Sadyr Japarov informed parliament about the incident today.

National Committee for State Security officers checked Sultanov's house today but found no traces of any other explosives.
