Islamic State Video Calls On Militants To Carry Out Attacks In Russia

A nine-minute video posted to YouTube on July 31 through a messenger account used by the Islamic State (IS) group calls on IS militants to carry out attacks in Russia.

The video shows a masked man driving a car in a desert who wags his finger and shouts: "Listen Putin, we will come to Russia and will kill you at your homes.”

The video with subtitles showed footage of armed men attacking armored vehicles and tents and collecting weapons in the desert.

The subtitles, which could not immediately be independently verified, claimed that the footage showed IS militants on a highway to the south of the town of Akashat in Iraq’s western province of Anbar.

The posting came as Russia and the United States are talking about boosting military and intelligence cooperation against IS and Al-Qaeda fighters in Syria.

It also follows a series of deadly attacks claimed by the IS in Europe during the past weeks.

Based on reporting by Reuters and AP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
