Kazakh customs officials say a 55-year-old U.S. national has been detained in Almaty after "radioactive" measurement devices were found in his luggage.

Officials say the man, who has not been publicly identified, was detained at Almaty international airport on February 29.

He was reportedly stopped by customs officers ahead of a planned flight to Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Officials say customs officers found five items described as “calibrated radioactive source devices used for measurements” in the suspect’s bags.
