U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Joseph Chamblin has pleaded guilty to urinating on the corpses of Taliban fighters and posing for pictures with them.
At a special court on December 20, Chamblin was found guilty of wrongful desecration and failure to properly supervise junior Marines and posing for photographs with battlefield casualties.
A judge ordered Chamblin jailed for 30 days. He also fined Chamblin $2,000 and demoted him to a lower rank.
A video of Sergeant Chamblin and other Marines urinating on the corpses of three Taliban fighters during a counterinsurgency operation in Afghanistan's Helmand Province in July 2011 was posted on YouTube and other websites.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said at the time that the incident was "deplorable" and promised an investigation.
