A Moldovan woman who was aboard the "Costa Concordia" when the cruise ship crashed into a reef off of an Italian island has admitted she was the lover of Captain Francesco Schettino.

Thirty-two of the more than 4,200 people on board the ship died when it ran aground near the island of Giglio in January 2012.

Testifying at Schettino’s trial on October 29, Domnica Cemortan said she was with the captain on the bridge when the ship ran aground. Cemortan also told the Italian court that she boarded as a nonpaying passenger hours before the incident, and that she had worked on the Concordia for three weeks in December 2011.

Schettino is being tried on multiple charges of manslaughter and abandoning ship. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
