North Korean Parade Marks 60th Anniversary Of Truce

North Korean soldiers and military hardware were paraded through Pyongyang on July 27 in a painstakingly choreographed pageant marking the 60th anniversary of the Korean War truce. The display was aimed at intimidating North Korea’s adversaries and rallying its people behind their youthful leader, Kim Jong Un. Thousands of troops and spectators shouted "Protect Kim Jon Un with our lives" in unison as he appeared at a podium overlooking the sprawling Kim Il Sun Square, flanked by top party and military leaders. North Koreans call the July 27 anniversary Victory Day in the Fatherland Liberation War. However, the date actually is the anniversary of a truce ending fighting that raged from 1950 until 1953. Technically the divided Korean peninsula remains at war.
