Imran Khan's Party 'To Resign All Pakistan Parliamentary Seats'

A senior official from the party of Pakistani opposition politician Imran Khan says the party has decided to resign all its seats in the country's national assembly.

The move announced by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the deputy leader of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party, comes amid a bitter row with the government over alleged election rigging.

Former cricket star Khan has rallied with thousands of supporters in Islamabad in recent days, demanding the government step down and hold fresh elections.

The rally failed to attract the vast crowds Khan had promised, and other opposition parties on August 18 distanced themselves from his appeal for civil disobedience.

However, Khan on August 18 told his followers he intends to lead a march on August 19 on the capital's heavily guarded "Red Zone," which houses government buildings and foreign embassies.
