Pakistan Summons India's Envoy In Islamabad Over Kashmir Violence

Pakistan's government on July 11 summoned India's high commissioner to Pakistan, Gautam Bambawale, to discuss a series of deadly clashes that have killed at least 23 people in India-administered Kashmir.

At least three protesters and a police officer were killed in the Muslim-majority region on July 10, raising the death toll in violence sparked by the death of a separatist leader there.

Indian authorities have imposed a curfew in the troubled Himalayan region in an effort to halt demonstrations after Indian security officials said they killed Burhan Muzaffar Wani, a commander of the rebel group Hizbul Mujahideen, along with two other militants, on July 8.

Local authorities there say as many as 100 members of the security forces have been injured and three have gone missing.

Indian police described Wani's killing as a "major success against militants in Kashmir," where the majority of people are Muslim and many are sympathetic to the rebels.
