Pakistani Search For Missing Mountain Climbers Ends

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan has called off the search for three mountain climbers who went missing in the country's northeast some 10 days ago.

The Austrian, Swiss, and Pakistani climbers went on a high-altitude expedition to Gasherbrum-1, the highest peak in the Karakoram mountain range on the Pakistan-China border, on March 9.

Pakistani officials say heavy snow and strong winds have hampered the search effort.

The trio, who had satellite phones, were last spotted around 450 meters short of the mountain's 8,048-meter peak.
