Two members of the Russian punk performance-art group Pussy Riot have again been assaulted.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, as well as a member of the presidential Council for Human Rights, Ilya Shablinsky, say they were sitting in a cafe in the town of Yavas in Russia's Republic of Mordovia when two men dressed in black splashed the green antiseptic known as "zelyonka" on their faces.

The two men made no effort to hide their faces. Police are investigating.

Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina experienced a similar attack on March 6 in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, where they suffered minor injuries.

They were also attacked by Cossacks as they performed a song criticizing President Vladimir Putin during the Winter Olympics in Sochi last month.

The two women are in Mordovia in connection with their establishment of a center to defend prisoners' rights.
