A third member of a Russian feminist punk group has been charged with hooliganism and could be imprisoned ahead of a trial.

Two other members of Pussy Riot are already jailed ahead of trial on charges connected to a noisy protest staged by the group last month at Christ the Savior Cathedral, near the Kremlin, against the continued rule of Vladimir Putin.

A judge was expected to rule later on March 16 on whether Irina Lokteva should be placed in pretrial detention.

Lokteva’s fellow band members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were arrested in February and charged with hooliganism and insulting religious believers.

The group’s supporters have staged a number of protest actions in Moscow and other cities, calling for their release.
