Russia ‘Seriously Concerned’ About Bombing Of Syrian Army Camp

Russia has voiced concern about the reported bombing of a Syrian Army camp.

The Damasuc government says aircraft from the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) extremist group targeted the army camp in the eastern city of Deir el-Zour on December 6, killing three Syrian soldiers and wounding 13.

The United States denied the allegation, and an unidentified U.S. military official said Washington was “certain” that Russia was responsible.

Without commenting on the U.S. claim, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on December 8 that it has a "serious concern" about reports of the U.S.-led coalition strike in Deir el-Zour.

It said the incident was rooted in the coalition's reluctance to coordinate with Damascus on its campaign against IS fighters.

Based on reporting by AP and Reuters

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
