Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a decree approving a citizenship application from famed U.S. boxer Roy Jones.

The announcement appeared on the Russian presidential website on September 12.

On August 19, Jones met with Putin in Sevastopol, in the Ukrainian region of Crimea that was annexed by Russia in March 2014. At that meeting, Jones said he would like to become a Russian citizen.

In his illustrious boxing career, Jones won world titles in four weight categories.
