Last WWII Veteran Who Stormed Berlin's Reichstag Dies


Russian military officials say the last surviving Soviet Red Army veteran of World War II who took part in the storming of the Reichstag in Berlin in 1945 has died at the age of 93 in St. Petersburg.

The press service of the Western Military District of the Russian armed forces on December 9 identified the veteran as Nikolai Belyaev from the Soviet Red Army's 756th regiment.

The regiment was the first to seize the Reichstag building.

Belyaev is to be buried with military honors.
