Russian Payment Card To Be Called Mir


Russian officials announced that the government's first payment card will be called Mir (world).

The National Payment Card Syste (NSPK), a company run by the Russian central bank, said on its website on May 23 that the name and design for the card was selected through an online competition.

It said the name Mir and a logo with a globe on it was designed by an unnamed person in the Russian region of Udmurtia.

The company said the creater of the Mir entry will be awarded 150,000 rubles ($3,003) at a ceremony on May 28.

NSPK had previously announced it planned to start making the cards in
December.
