DUSHANBE -- A Russian security services officer has died in Dushanbe, one day before the scheduled arrival in Tajikistan of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.
Interior Ministry spokesman Mahmadullo Asadulloev told RFE/RL that Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Kuznetzov was found dead in his room at Dushanbe's Hyatt Regency hotel late on August 31.
Asadulloev said Kuznetzov died of heart problems, which his colleagues knew about. He said doctors ruled out foul play.
Asadulloev said Kuznetzov arrived recently in Tajikistan to prepare for Medvedev's official visit, which begins on September 1.
Medvedev is due to attend a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit and a separate meeting with the presidents of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
