Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova has won her second French Open title, defeating Romanian Simona Halep with 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 victory.

The May 7 match lasted for three hours and two minutes, the tournament's second longest women's final.

Sharapova claimed her fifth Grand Slam title after Wimbledon 2004, the 2006 U.S. Open, the 2008 Australian Open, and her first Roland Garros title in 2012.

Sharapova, the seventh seed, was Roland Garros' runner-up last year to Serena Williams.

Halep, the fourth seed, was playing in her first Grand Slam final.
