Texas Police Charge Teen Adopted From Russia With Killing Parents

Updated

A teenager adopted from Russia has been arrested in Texas and charged with the murder of his adoptive parents.

Police in the city of Crowley said Carl Brewer, 17, was arrested in his parents’ home following a 12-hour standoff with the police that ended in tear gas being used.

Crowley officers had found the bodies of American Airlines pilot Troy Brewer, 60, and his wife Mary Brewer, 63, dead inside their home in the evening on November 29.

The Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. has confirmed that Brewer had been adopted from Russia and as a Russian citizen had been registered at the Russian consulate since 2005.

Police say they did not have an exact motive for the slayings.

The Brewers had three children adopted from Russia, reports said. Carl was the only one still living with his adoptive parents.

A pastor in the city suggested that Brewer and his brothers had a history of “outbursts.”
