Poland on September 1 is marking the 70th anniversary of the start of World War II with a gathering in Gdansk that will include Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Putin is due to make a speech aimed at boosting ties between Russia and Poland -- a relationship strained by differing historical accounts about the start of the war and the suspicions those events continue to foster today.
