An Uzbek court has sentenced a former RFE/RL journalist to 10 years in prison for drug possession. Human rights groups have condemned the case against Salijon Abdurahmonov as yet another attack on press freedom by the Uzbek government. The news comes as the European Union is due to discuss easing sanctions imposed on Tashkent after a bloody crackdown on protesters in the city of Andijon in 2005.
