Kyrgyz President Sacks Regional Governor


(RFE/RL) November 8, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev has dismissed the governor of Chui Oblast, Turgunbek Kulmurzaev.


The decree posted on the president's website gives no reason for the decision.


Chui Oblast is the Kyrgyz administrative district that surrounds and includes the capital, Bishkek.


Kulmurzaev on November 6 showed up at an opposition rally in central Bishkek and publicly called upon Bakiev to resign.
