ASTANA -- Kazakhstan's Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by jailed opposition activist Aidos Sadyqov, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.
Sadyqov was found guilty in July of hooliganism and resisting police and sentenced to two years in jail, a verdict that was upheld in August by the Aqtobe Oblast Court.
Sadyqov, who says his prosecution is politically motivated, had asked the Supreme Court to annul the verdict and review his case.
Sadyqov's lawyer, Tatyana Lazareva, told RFE/RL that since his appeals have been turned down by all domestic courts, as of December 6, Sadyqov has the right to appeal to international bodies. His wife, Natalya Sadyqova, plans to file a complaint to the UN Committee for Human Rights.
