A judge in the U.S. city of Houston has denied bail for a Russian citizen whom American investigators say played a major role in helping a company illegally sell high-technology military components to Russian military and intelligence agencies.
The judge ordered Alexander Posobilov, who holds U.S. and Russian passports, to remain jailed until trial, saying there was a risk he could try to leave the U.S.
Detention hearings for six other suspects in the case are due to be held next week.
An FBI agent told the court that Posobilov, who was head of procurement for the Arc Electronics firm, instructed employees to conceal information that microelectronics devices the company was buying from U.S. manufacturers were being illegally sold to Russian military and intelligence agencies.
