Two Russian cosmonauts have spent more than eight hours on a spacewalk that included an unsuccessful attempt to install cameras on the exterior of the International Space Station (ISS).

Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky set up the high-definition cameras on behalf of a Canadian company that hopes to capture video images of Earth.

But, due to a glitch, officials said the cameras were unable to communicate with stations on Earth, and the cosmonauts brought the cameras back inside the ISS for investigation.

It was the third spacewalk in a week at the orbiting laboratory.

Two U.S. astronauts performed two spacewalks last on December 21 and 24 to remove and replace a faulty cooling pump that had temporarily hobbled operations on the ISS.
