Two workers for an international aid organization were freed when NATO and Afghan army forces discovered and attacked a Taliban prison in southern Afghanistan, RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal reports.
Dawood Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Helmand provincial government, told Radio Mashaal that the prison was found in the Sher Ghazi area of the Musa Kala district on August 17.
Ahmadi said 13 Taliban insurgents were killed in the operation by NATO and Afghan forces, which freed 27 people. He said Mullah Qayyum Tander was the prison's supervisor.
Ahmadi said that among the captives were two kidnapped workers from the International Relief and Development organization.
No further information about the workers was available. The Taliban often abducts NGO workers and holds them for ransom.
The Taliban has not commented on the prison attack.
