BELGRADE -- An Albanian-language play with ethnic Albanian actors was being staged in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, on December 4, RFE/RL's Balkan Service reported.
"The General of the Dead Army" is a production by the Macedonian-based drama group Theater of Minorities, and was slated to open at the Yugoslav Drama Theater.
The opening was expected to mark the first time in 30 years that an Albanian-language play was performed in Belgrade.
The play is directed by Bosnian Dino Mustafic and is part of the Balkan Summit of Youth.
Serbian-Albanian relations have been strained for almost three decades over the former Serbian province of Kosovo, where Belgrade oppressed the native language and culture of the Albanian majority.
The Kosovar government declared independence from Serbia in February 2008.
Kosovo has been recognized as an independent state by 63 countries.
