TEXT SIZE - +
BAKU -- Two people in Azerbaijan have been diagnosed with H1N1, or swine flu, RFE/RL's Azerbaijani Service reports.

Both patients had returned from Europe and felt ill upon their arrival.

The Health Ministry said the two individuals are receiving medical care and their condition is stable. It added that passengers on the flight who came into contact with the infected patients are also being monitored for signs of the disease.

Azerbaijani authorities have assured the public that the government is able to control the disease to prevent it from spreading further, and that it is monitoring all border crossings for potential carriers moving in and out of the country.

Swine flu has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization and has infected people in more than 160 countries.
