MINSK -- A leader of the Belarusian opposition, former presidential contender Alyaksandr Kazulin, has returned from a meeting with Russian politicians in Moscow, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.

Kazulin told RFE/RL that the nearly three-hour meeting was initiated by the chairman of the Russian Duma's committee on CIS issues, Aleksandr Ostrovsky.

He added that Russian officials were seeking contacts with different political groups and movements in Belarus rather than just official authorities.

Kazulin speculated that it was likely that Russian authorities were holding consultations with other Belarus politicians as well, adding that this suggests that the Kremlin is revisiting its strategy toward Belarus.

He did not elaborate on the details of the meeting.
