MINSK -- Several Belarusian youth organizations have held demonstrations in Minsk in support of political prisoners, RFE/RL's Belarusian Service reported.

Police filmed the protests on March 16, held on Independence Square and October Square, though no one was detained.

Artur Finkevich, the leader of the Young Belarus movement, told RFE/RL that he and his colleagues came to support fellow activists who are currently jailed, adding that is the duty of every member of his movement.

An activist of the Jeans for Freedom movement, Paval Yukhnevich, said that all statements by the government about "the so-called liberalization in the country" are meaningless until all political prisoners are freed.

Belarusian activists have been holding demonstrations to show solidarity with political prisoners on the 16th day of every month since 2005.
