The leader of a terrorist plot to set off truck bombs targeting symbolic Canadian targets has been sentenced to life in prison by a court in Canada.
Zakaria Amara, 24, pleaded guilty to the charges in October, admitting that he was a leader of the plot to set off fertilizer truck bombs outside Toronto's Stock Exchange, Canada's spy agency offices, and a Canadian military base.
The goal of the planned attacks was to intimidate Canada into withdrawing troops from Afghanistan.
Amara and 17 others linked to the plot were arrested in 2006.
Amara last week apologized for his actions in a public letter, saying he deserved nothing but contempt from Canadians.
Amara will be eligible to apply for parole after serving 6 1/2 years of his sentence.
