U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed concern over British plans to cut defense spending.

Speaking to the BBC, Clinton said maintaining NATO as the most successful defense alliance "in the history of the world" requires all 28 member nations, like Britain, make "appropriate contributions."

Clinton's remarks come ahead of a defense review in Britain next week.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer is seeking a reduction of up to 10 percent in the defense budget between 2011 and 2015.
