SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine -- Crimea's only Ukrainian-language periodical has resumed publication, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.
Viktor Kachula, the editor in chief of "Krymska Svitlytsya Weekly," told RFE/RL that local businessman Volodymyr Kuntsov decided to pay the printing costs of the weekly after he learned about the newspaper's financial problems.
The Tavrida Publishing House cited unpaid debts in refusing to print the weekly.
Kachula said Ukraine's Culture Ministry stopped financing the periodical in April. But he said Kuntsov promised him that most of the weekly's debts would be paid on August 12.
"Krymska Svitlytsya Weekly" has been operating since 1992 and is the only periodical printed in the Ukrainian language on the predominantly Russian-speaking Crimean peninsula.
