Disturbing Iran Images On Holy Day

Here's a roundup of some of the most significant video images coming out of Iran on Ashura today, when Shi'a mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. RFE/RL cannot vouch for the authenticity of these videos but is posting them in the interest of those who are trying to stay informed despite official bans on media access to these events.

YouTube video appearing to show street fighting between Iranian riot police and protesters in Tehran on December 27.

YouTube video labeled "Gunshot in College Crossroad" and dated December 27. There are chants of "I'll kill those who killed my brother" as the group carries what appears to be an injured individual.




One of the earliest videos to come out of Iran today, of burning debris in the streets of Tehran.

No, this is what happens when you have a clerical fascist state that, with the support of both sides in the cold war, steals a people's revolution (in 1979) and then mass-abuses them for the next 30 years, brutally suppressing all resistance, and then, dangling the illusion of change within the system (in the form of an election including the loyal opposition) in front of people, takes away even that and tries to silence protest with all out terror.
