A car bomb has exploded in the Shi'ite holy city of Karbala in central Iraq, reportedly killing and injuring dozens of people.

Police said there were Iranian pilgrims among the casualties.

The car bomb exploded on a crowded street near a mosque in the center of the city.

The number of the dead and injured is still unclear.

Police have imposed a curfew.
