German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has said that he and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski received broad support for a European Union foreign-policy "troika" mission to Ukraine.

Steinmeier was speaking on April 27 after meeting with his EU counterparts in Luxembourg.

He said the mission would work mainly on three points: Ukraine's economic crisis, the counterproductive political infighting, and the strained relationship between Ukraine and Russia.

Steinmeier added that the mission would have to try to arrive at a Ukrainian national consensus to overcome the crisis.

Referring to the International Monetary Fund loan that Ukraine is about to receive, Steinmeier reminded Kyiv that the funds are linked to expected changes in the country’s domestic politics.
