TEXT SIZE - +
MOSCOW -- The former deputy governor of Primorsky Krai in Russia's Far East has been sentenced to nine years in jail after being found guilty of bribe-taking.

RFE/RL's Russian Service reports that Aleksandr Shishkin pleaded guilty to the charges in the courtroom.

He was reportedly caught taking a large bribe from a local businessman last year.

An investigation showed that Shishkin had regularly extorted bribes from local businesses.

Shishkin is a member of the pro-presidential Unified Russia party.
