DUSHANBE -- Two explosions in Dushanbe have raised concerns that members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) may have spread to the Tajik capital, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.
The bomb blasts took place late on July 25 at the heaquarters of Tajik Air near Dushanbe's international airport and early on July 26 in a parking lot of the Hotel Tajikistan, not far from Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon's new downtown presidential palace.
The explosions caused no injuries. The attacks -- unusual for Dushanbe -- come ahead of the July 30 Tajik-Russian-Afghan-Pakistani summit.
Dushanbe-based political analyst Abdughani Mamadazimov told RFE/RL that the IMU could have organized the attacks since Tajik forces are believed to have been fighting against IMU members in the eastern Tavil-Dara district for the past several weeks.
Tajik officials say several insurgents were killed there last week, but claim the miliary action in that region is an antidrug operation.
Afghan officials said on July 24 that IMU fighters had battled against German and Afghan forces in northern Afghanistan, near the Tajik border.
