DUSHANBE -- Rainstorms, floods, and mudslides in recent days have killed at least three people in Tajikistan's southern Khatlon province, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.

Emergency Situations Committee spokesman Dustmurod Zabirov said that rain and floods along with mudslides have completely or partly destroyed dozens of houses in the Khuroson, Yvon, and Muminobod districts of Khatlon province.

Rain and the resulting floods have demolished houses and agricultural fields in the Panjakent district of the northern Sughd province, the eastern Rasht district, and the Rudaki and Varzob districts surrounding the Tajik capital.

Zabirov told RFE/RL that the government has evacuated dozens of families from dangerous areas and is considering offering them permanent homes for relocation.
