A former Kyrgyzstan prime minister, Igor Chudinov, has been detained on charges that remain unclear, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.

The Kyrgyz National Security Service told RFE/RL that Chudinov had voluntarily turned himself in to authorities.

Chudinov was prime minister from 2007 to 2009 under then-President Kurmanbek Bakiev, who was chased from power by protesters in April.

After being dismissed as prime minister, Chudinov worked as a chief in Kyrgyzstan's development fund, which is now being investigated for embezzlement and other crimes.
