MAGAS, Ingushetia -- Ingushetia's police and federal troops say they killed four rebels during a special operation that began on May 17, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Ingushetia's Interior Ministry said at least 15 rebels are still thought to be hiding in a forest in the republic's Sunzhen district.

On May 17, the group of rebels attacked local police, wounding one policeman and one citizen.

Officials say the special operation to flush out the rebel group is continuing.

Ingushetia is one of the most volatile republics in Russia's North Caucasus, with dozens of security officials and suspected rebels having been killed or kidnapped this year.
