ST. PETERSBURG -- General Motors' St. Petersburg plant has suspended its operations until June 28, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Factory officials say the facility's main production line is only being temporarily stopped so that it can be retooled for assembly of the new Chevrolet Cruze model.

The GM plant began operating in St. Petersburg last year and employs about 1,000 workers.

GM filed for bankruptcy in the United States last week and is selling off various parts of the company.
